Demonstration of Octopus intelligence by escaping a trapped tank

What's so great about this video? Any animal with the tiniest brain would do that. Right, but most animals do it by exploring and this octopus does it by observing. This octopus immediately jumps for the chance to escape through the hole right after the hole is available. This means that the octopus knew way in advance that there is an escape route, just have to wait for the right moment. This requires puzzle solving with both short term and long term memory. It is believed to be the most intelligent creatures of all invertebrates.

I touched one of those before, they are really soft, and hard to get off of you once they suction on.

When i first say this video i was thinking big deal. But the description makes sense. I guess the regular response would be for it to run into the walls a bit before getting out.

God gave all of his creatures wisdom, except with Octomom.

Puzzle solving my ass. A f**king roach would crawl out of a hole to get out of a box that does not mean bugs are smart. There was a hole, so it went through the hole just like any animal would.

mevsyou- Be careful what you call other people. You might want to check out the difference between your and you're. By the way, cleverer is a word.

how did they get it in there in the first place, must have had really tiny hands, like in the burger king commercial
anon - Umm, no? wrote:4/13/2008 3:41:15 AM 2 +  -

It would be even cleverer if it had realised there was no glass behind him

Although I'm aware Octopus are smart, this box with a hole doesn't really give it justice. Ever seen one run a maze, or squeeze through a 3 foot long, 2 inch diameter tube? Its pretty extraordinary.
